Food Noise Has Taken Enough of My Life. How Do I Turn It Down in Menopause?
Food noise in menopause can feel especially exhausting when you’ve already spent years thinking about eating, weight, and your body. You finish lunch and start planning dinner. You replay what you ate, compare your plate with someone else’s, and wonder why food still takes up so much room in your mind.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann joins the Menopause Love Lounge for a candid conversation about food noise, emotional eating, and body image in midlife. Junie shares how unsettling it feels when the relationship with food she worked hard to change becomes shaky again as her body changes. Marla recalls reaching her goal weight and discovering that the number on the scale hadn’t brought her peace.
Together, we explore the food rules we learned growing up, the comfort food can provide, and the difference between caring for your body and trying to control every bite. We also discuss GLP-1s, counting macros, and the mental work of planning meals for a household.
If you’re tired of fighting your thoughts about food, this conversation offers a starting point: get curious about what’s beneath the noise and what your changing body needs from you now.
In this episode, we're talking about:
- What food noise actually sounds like and why it can be exhausting
- Emotional eating and the feelings we may be trying to quiet
- How childhood experiences and family patterns shape our relationships with food
- Why menopause can reignite old body image insecurities
- Food noise, GLP-1 medications, and the importance of addressing underlying emotional struggles
- The difference between loving your body and liking your body
- How to develop a healthier relationship with food without shame or constant restriction
And don't miss our Legs Wide Open segment, where we play Feed It or Free It! We're debating everything from counting calories and stepping on the scale to accepting compliments and wearing Spanx.
Because maybe the answer isn't another diet. Maybe it's learning to become your own best friend.

if you've ever stood in front of the mirror and thought, my God, whose body is this? Or found yourself frustrated because what used to work just doesn't work anymore. We're here to tell you that you are not alone. menopause is a way of changing more than just our hormones. It changes our bodies, it changes our confidence, and sometimes even the way we're seeing ourselves. And so many of us end up
Blaming ourselves, thinking, I don't know, we just need more willpower. I say that all the time. God, you didn't give me willpower. Another
Ozzie Osborne (:Yeah.
Andrea Knoche (:diet or a little more discipline. But what if the problem isn't your body at all? So we have a special guest with us today, and she believes that our relationship with food and even the way we feel about our bodies is often just a symptom of something so much deeper. So Marla Mervis Hartman is a TEDx speaker. She's a best-selling author.
And a coach who helps women break free from body shame and emotional eating by healing the relationship they have with themselves. So if you're listening and you're tired of feeling like you're constantly battling your body and you are ready for a completely different perspective on confidence, self-worth, and what it really means to feel at home in your own skin, then buckle up, because this conversation is for you. We are so excited to have you here, Marla. Thank you for joining us.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:Thanks
for inviting me. How fun. To the party.
Andrea Knoche (:Apps. I know we are excited.
It is a party. And so we're gonna go. It's a what?
Ozzie Osborne (:It's a lounge party. It's a lounge party.
Andrea Knoche (:A lounge party. Yes, yeah. So we're gonna go through our three segments, which we usually do. We're gonna start out with our personal reflections. Each host is gonna share a brief personal reflection on their own relationship with food, body image, self-worth, or the messages that she's receiving about her body through midlife.
Marla, we're gonna ask you to chime in with your thoughts and your answers. Just kind of give us some good insight or tell us where we are totally going wrong. Probably nowhere. We're perfect. We know it, right? We're perfect. We
Junie Moon (:We're perfect.
Laurie Gerber (:Yeah.
Andrea Knoche (:know, we know. And then second, our second segment is gonna be all about you, Marla. We're gonna talk about your bio, what you've been doing to get to this point. And we're gonna also talk about what if food noise isn't just about food at all. And you're gonna explain why the battle with food often begins with a much deeper longing.
And what our bodies may actually be trying to tell us. And then, of course,
Laurie Gerber (:Mm.
Andrea Knoche (:we have our legs wide open segment in the end, and we are going to play Feed It or Free It, where everyone is gonna reveal the beliefs, the habits, the stories that they are finally ready to shed and let go. So we are so excited to get started. Who wants to start telling us how do you feel about food? How do you feel about food in your body? Lori, you're Lori, Lori, Lori.
Ozzie Osborne (:She's
ready to go.
Laurie Gerber (:I can always
go first, just like at a buffet. I'm I'm known as the one who goes first at the buffet. And
Andrea Knoche (:Yeah.
Junie Moon (:Ha ha ha ha!
Karen Viesta (:you
Laurie Gerber (:I even try to wait. It's like, but nobody wants to start the buffet, so
Karen Viesta (:You
Laurie Gerber (:it has to be me. And I don't mind. I don't mind.
Andrea Knoche (:All right.
Laurie Gerber (:it's funny that you should say how do you feel about food because a couple of weeks ago I embarked on an experiment, which was to ask myself before I ate any food, how it was that I was feeling.
And
Andrea Knoche (:Mm.
Laurie Gerber (:I was very surprised. I think of myself as a very conscious person. Of course, I teach consciousness and mind management, but I'm gonna read you the list that I wrote down of feelings that I
Andrea Knoche (:Ooh.
Laurie Gerber (:had before I ate. Ready? It's a lot of them. Okay. Marla, I might be
Ozzie Osborne (:Ooh, can't wait.
Dawn Wiggins (:Marla is so excited right now. Marla is like, I have found my people.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:Ready.
Andrea Knoche (:Ready? my
Karen Viesta (:Hahaha
Laurie Gerber (:teeing you up. Okay, so here it goes. Rushed, overwhelmed, tired.
Overstimulated, hyped up, activated, distracted, impatient, feisty, eager, excited, agitated, antsy, unsettled, eager again, restless, anxious, and desire.
Junie Moon (:Wow.
Andrea Knoche (:Whoa.
This sounds like the beginning of our business meetings,
Laurie Gerber (:Whoa, did I cover all the feelings?
Andrea Knoche (:Lori. You
Karen Viesta (:you
Andrea Knoche (:sure we're talking about food here or our business meetings? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Laurie Gerber (:We're talking about my feelings, is what we're talking about. But interestingly enough, the feelings that I feel
are supported by eating. And, you know, and I'm happy to say that I'm not somebody I'm capable of binging, but I'm pretty darn good at eating healthfully, eating, you know, appropriate quantities. I've learned so much about what my body, you know, what works for my body and what doesn't. However, I am still completely eating to anesthetize feelings.
Andrea Knoche (:Mm.
Laurie Gerber (:So that's that was my discovery. Or to support
Andrea Knoche (:Oof. Wow.
Ozzie Osborne (:That's a good one.
Laurie Gerber (:feeling. Like I don't know if we want to cast it negatively. I mean, it is comforting and it's not harmful because I'm eating, you know, in ways that are healthful and but I d I still wonder
Andrea Knoche (:Mm.
Laurie Gerber (:about that. Like that's that is like the latest breaking news that I don't I'm not sure where I'm going with it next. But there you have it.
Ozzie Osborne (:And Lori, what is your
Andrea Knoche (:Mm.
Ozzie Osborne (:relationship with food prior to now that you're actually more conscious about what's happening when you're eating?
Laurie Gerber (:That's an interesting
question. I associate food with pleasure a thousand percent. Like it is pleasure, it is adventure, it's love, it's calm, it's just it's like my greatest love affair. And I used to say actually, because before I before my near divorce experience, in which I actually saved my marriage with my husband, my lover was food. Like I had replaced, I had replaced the role my husband was playing with my kids and food. And so
Andrea Knoche (:Mm.
Laurie Gerber (:I have never
broken up with food. I have never fallen out of love with food. But my relationship has changed and evolved
Andrea Knoche (:Mm.
Laurie Gerber (:to to one that is like less harmful to my body and my mind. but I don't think I'm
Andrea Knoche (:Wow.
Laurie Gerber (:I don't think I'm at the height of growth on it, which is why I'm excited for this conversation.
Andrea Knoche (:Yeah, yeah.
Junie Moon (:Mm.
Ozzie Osborne (:You're in the beginning of
the journey.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:Well
I'm I'm curious if you s if you stopped in the middle, say eleven AM every single day and also took a snapshot of your emotions, would it be the same or is it connected to the food? Is it just like the moment in time with the food?
Laurie Gerber (:that's a great question. And the answer is
it's it's the moment in time when it's the overwhelmed, overstimulated, blah blah blah. But
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:Got it.
Laurie Gerber (:the desire,
Andrea Knoche (:Yeah.
Laurie Gerber (:the eager, the excitement, that's in response to thinking about food. So they're two they're
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:Right.
Laurie Gerber (:two different things.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:And you said something that's really important, and I think we need to talk about that before we talk about food at all, is that food is for us to ground us. It it it does, it is supposed to, it is a God given gift that we receive food to ground us, to satiate us, to calm us. So I think that when we think about emotional eating or any kind of using food for emotional eating.
that gets connected to it and somehow that's wrong. Right?
Ozzie Osborne (:Mm.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:Like when we
Andrea Knoche (:Mm.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:are anxious, like give me a burger, right? Don't give me don't give me a a salad. Like I need to like ground.
Laurie Gerber (:Right.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:And
Andrea Knoche (:Yeah.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:so that that's important for us to acknowledge before we dive into all of this.
Ozzie Osborne (:Hm, good point.
Andrea Knoche (:Mm. Mm.
And that seems pretty normal, Marla, that a lot of people
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:Mm-hmm.
Andrea Knoche (:use food as a coping mechanism. Like she said, you know, near divorce, that she was like, That became my new lover, you know, food doesn't talk back to me. It's great. And so, you know, when we have that, is that is that pretty normal that a lot of people do that? It's that comfort food, right? Kind of like you said.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:I think it's normal, especially
for women like us who are like high achievers, we're not gonna reach for a drug. We're not like
Andrea Knoche (:Mm-hmm.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:we n we know better. Right? So food is so easy. We can we can have more ice cream and we're not gonna hurt everyone, right? And so it's it's such an easy and it
Laurie Gerber (:Mm.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:and it works, right? Food works as
Ozzie Osborne (:Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
Andrea Knoche (:Yeah, yeah. It does.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:pleasure.
Ozzie Osborne (:It does work
Andrea Knoche (:Yeah.
Ozzie Osborne (:as pleasure, yeah.
Junie Moon (:You know, one of the things that I wanted to add to that is that, and this is so my wheelhouse, this has been a
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:Yeah.
Junie Moon (:lifelong journey around food and the love affair and how it's always there 24-7. It's interesting, it loves me back, it's very reliable. that it's a yes and with everything we're talking about. Yes, it grounds, yes, it supports, yes, it's there, and it can be a tool.
And just like any tool, we can overdo it and not deal with the thing. You know, that's where, you know, the shadow work that I do and what changed my life with food is yeah, it was working up to a point, but I was overusing it. I was using food as a drug. So we need to
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:Absolutely.
Junie Moon (:look at what's underneath, what's causing all the emotions, and then find that balance or close to balance.
Andrea Knoche (:Yeah, yeah. Interesting. So Lori, when you're done when you've eaten or you're getting all nervous and worked up about eating and then you eat, how do you feel after? Does it just totally calm you or do you feel anxious or upset that maybe you ate more than you should have?
Laurie Gerber (:It it works to calm me. But I'm also you know, I'm very disciplined. So like I'm pretty good at just
Andrea Knoche (:Yeah.
Laurie Gerber (:keeping that balance of not too much. If I eat too much, I definitely do not appreciate it. I'm not happy about it, but I'm
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:Yeah.
Andrea Knoche (:Yeah.
Laurie Gerber (:pretty good at I'm pretty good at using it appropriately, I would say. I just still notice I am
Andrea Knoche (:Yeah.
Laurie Gerber (:using it, right? I'm not eating because I'm
Andrea Knoche (:Mm.
Laurie Gerber (:hungry. Right. Like hungry
Ozzie Osborne (:Mm-hmm.
Laurie Gerber (:was not one of the feelings on the list, weirdly. Yes, yes.
Andrea Knoche (:Mm-hmm. Good things on there. You're right.
Laurie Gerber (:Yes.
Although I might also be hungry. It's just not the primary thing I'm I'm
Andrea Knoche (:Yeah.
Laurie Gerber (:present to. And I wonder what it would be like to eat primarily for hunger. I I don't
Andrea Knoche (:Yeah.
Laurie Gerber (:I can't imagine that. That sounds like a that sounds like a very stark
Ozzie Osborne (:Yeah.
Laurie Gerber (:life.
Andrea Knoche (:Do you have certain go to foods that you're like this one I know makes me feel a certain way? I'm like fascinated by this. Like cause you I 'cause I I yeah.
Laurie Gerber (:You know my go-to foods. You've watched me eat my roasted zucchini.
Ozzie Osborne (:Zucchini,
zucchini and fish.
Laurie Gerber (:I like chicken
Junie Moon (:right, the
Laurie Gerber (:pies and zucchini
Junie Moon (:zucchini.
Laurie Gerber (:and fish. Yes, I like protein and I
Andrea Knoche (:And fish, yes.
Laurie Gerber (:like roasted vegetables. Because those are sweet. You know, those are sweet, fatty, you know, nourishing things that I don't think are gonna
Andrea Knoche (:Yeah, but so good for you.
Laurie Gerber (:do me, do me wrong.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:Yeah, they're all good.
Laurie Gerber (:Yeah. Yeah, I've learned I used to
Andrea Knoche (:Yeah. You're not in there, you know
Laurie Gerber (:binge on, I literally did not think a meal was complete without
Bread, pasta or rice, or and sh and a dessert. Like I
Andrea Knoche (:Mm.
Laurie Gerber (:would have a dessert at breakfast, a dessert at lunch, and a dessert at dinner. And
Andrea Knoche (:H
Laurie Gerber (:I was like, that's nor I mean, I was raised in that kind of family with where sugar was love.
Andrea Knoche (:Mm-hmm.
Laurie Gerber (:And it it was like, what's
Andrea Knoche (:Hmm.
Laurie Gerber (:the point of eating if the meal doesn't have those two things? That was my theory. So I had to retrain
Andrea Knoche (:Yeah.
Laurie Gerber (:my mind to think protein bars were like the best treat ever. And and that, you know, good fats and proteins and roasted vegetables was sugar, you know, was enough sugar and
Andrea Knoche (:Yeah.
Laurie Gerber (:fat to nourish me. So I just changed my mind about what tastes good to me and what and and those foods feel good. And I you know, there's a lot of foods that don't feel good, but I mainly avoid them.
Ozzie Osborne (:And you use a good word, nourishment. You're using it to nourish yourself, right? You're eating nourishing food. It's safe to say that food is a relationship. It's another relationship that we have, right? And I as a relationship
Laurie Gerber (:Totally.
Ozzie Osborne (:practitioner, I see patterns in every relationship that I'm in, including food. And I'd love to explain my background with food. I've I've got some trauma with food because my mom, at a very young age, we were we were taught that we weren't allowed to
get out of the off the dining room table until we ate everything on the plate.
Andrea Knoche (:Mm.
Ozzie Osborne (:So I grew up and and she learned that from her parents who were Holocaust survivors, where scarcity was attached to their relationship with food was scarcity. They didn't have very much, they had to hoard the food. And so she that's something that she imparted on us. And if we complain about the food, we would get punished if
We didn't finish everything. We had to finish it the next day. So oftentimes the next day
we would eat soggy food. So
Andrea Knoche (:Mm.
Ozzie Osborne (:for me, my relationship with food wasn't that great. It didn't it wasn't nourishing.
Andrea Knoche (:Mm.
Ozzie Osborne (:It was a punishment. And so I never really I even to this day, I think a couple of things I do. One, I never eat the last bite. If if we're sharing food, I'm never gonna be the one that's gonna eat the last thing on the plate.
I'm always gonna make sure everybody else is nourished.
Andrea Knoche (:Wow.
Ozzie Osborne (:Something that I learned that everyone around me needs to be nourished before I'm I'm complete. So that's one part. And then another part, I I I still to this day will not not finish a plate. I will finish ever even if I'm full. And so I've had
Laurie Gerber (:Mm.
Ozzie Osborne (:to learn to also speak to my body and ask myself, Am I full? Am I like just check in with myself? Is this enough? Can I
Can I wait fifteen minutes? Can I eat until I'm maybe close to full and feel satiated? Cause for me, I think what I learned in my relationship is that it's the receiving part, right? It's it's it it wasn't nourishing, it was punishment. And so now I had to learn how to make it nourishing enough to receive it, to swallow it, to let it become satiating, to l allow my belly to feel happy and to know the cues and and relearn what
initially was again imparted on me. And so, yeah. So today my relationship
Andrea Knoche (:Mm.
Ozzie Osborne (:with food is is a lot different obviously
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:Yeah.
Ozzie Osborne (:than before, but
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:I I thank you so much. I think there are so many people that can share a story from their from their beginnings. And what you shared about is so important because we have the belief around food, we have the pattern, but then we also have the imprint and we have like the the lineage like in our blood, like the bloodline connection to food passed down from generation to generation.
So the way I feel about it is like it it's all it's like that deep relationship is like in our in our bones, in our blood. And as we are in this time in our life where we are reclaiming our bodies, there's a reclamation that is happening at this time in our life. And there's also the reclamation that we have to have with our food as our relationship. And it doesn't it doesn't always just happen.
It's something that we we almost we have to choose. And that choice happens meal after meal, moment after moment in the intimacy. So if we're thinking about food as an intimate moment, because
Ozzie Osborne (:Mm.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:it is, it's the only thing that goes in that yes, we can enjoy a meal together, but it's going inside my body, right? And so that moment of food with your family was like tumultuous, but when you're thinking about having that relationship.
with food. There's i i it it's
It's
an opportunity for you to reclaim that pleasure and to reclaim these moments of boundaries, right? Like your body, your boundary. No, I'm not having anymore. Right? So do do you see
Andrea Knoche (:Mm, mm-hmm.
Ozzie Osborne (:Mm-hmm.
Laurie Gerber (:No.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:how it's not just about like, I'm doing the same thing? It's like,
Ozzie Osborne (:Mm-hmm.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:no, I get to love myself so deeply by saying no. And then that is
Ozzie Osborne (:Mm. It's powerful.
Andrea Knoche (:Yeah.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:what actually changes the whole dynamic with food and passed
Laurie Gerber (:Could
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:on.
Laurie Gerber (:could it also be yes? I mean, that
Andrea Knoche (:Yeah.
Laurie Gerber (:seems to go both ways, that the choice to consume or not to consume is is exercising an intimate boundary. That's a hot way to look at it.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:Absolutely. yeah. Absolutely. One hundred percent. One hundred percent.
Ozzie Osborne (:Right.
Yeah. Because also
for f for me, we weren't allowed to eat candy. So it's like
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:huh.
Ozzie Osborne (:the yes is like, yes, I'm allowed. I give myself permission to enjoy a piece of candy here and there, even though I read all the ingredients. My friends laugh at me.
Andrea Knoche (:Mm.
Ozzie Osborne (:But yeah, I will enjoy sweets. I I will enjoy the things that I wasn't allowed to eat as a young child. So I think it, yeah, you're you're correct, Lori, in asking that. There is a the yes to the things that
There's the I feel pleasure with and then there's the no to the things that I get to
Andrea Knoche (:Yeah.
Ozzie Osborne (:say no to that don't give me nourishment. But it's my choice, right? I I mean I think if we're talking about boundaries, the yes and the no, it th there's a choice in that. And to feel like I have a choice is empowering.
Whereas I didn't before.
Laurie Gerber (:Yeah, and
and you play with it every day all day. It's like this constant opportunity for you to exercise your relationship to yourself. It's kind of a
Ozzie Osborne (:Mm-hmm.
Laurie Gerber (:great way to look at it.
Andrea Knoche (:Mm. Yeah. And
Junie Moon (:I just had
an aha that is just kind of blowing
Ozzie Osborne (:ho
Junie Moon (:my mind. Da ta-ta-ha.
Andrea Knoche (:share it.
Dawn Wiggins (:Love that. Yeah.
Ozzie Osborne (:We we need sound effects, by the way.
Laurie Gerber (:Mind wide open
Junie Moon (:No, no, seriously, I'm
Andrea Knoche (:What do I got? What do I got?
Junie Moon (:like sitting here going, my god, like how could I not have seen this, you know? quick background, 200 pounds miserable about 25 years ago, thinking I had a food problem.
Realizing it was something beyond that. It was a much deeper problem. And you know, and I remember one of my first practitioners that I worked with, I remember her telling me that if I'm standing in front of the refrigerator
Karen Viesta (:you
Junie Moon (:with the door open, open, looking inside the refrigerator for something, it's not in the refrigerator, you know? That that that was like,
Andrea Knoche (:Mm-hmm.
Laurie Gerber (:Nice.
Junie Moon (:and that was the beginning, and then it was the shadow work to
Go, it's a self-esteem problem, it's an empowerment problem, it's a not getting my needs met problem. It was all this stuff, right? And so, and it's like like really emotional. Like, this is a huge aha for me. And it ties into menopause, like boom, baby, because for 25 years I've been in a normal-size body, you know, like a healthy body. I worked that relationship with food. I got healthy inside between my ears.
And then I got a new relationship with food. It it wasn't my lover anymore, but it was there for me to enjoy and it had its place. And just like you were saying, Lori, how you had that challenge with your marriage and and Ozzy talking about relationship. My relationship has changed with food. And I am just realizing it in this moment, like literally, guys, because for the last couple of years, my body has changed, and the food that
worked for me, my relationship with the food has completely changed. And I've been like trying to figure it out. And it's been wonky and it's been scary. And it's like what worked
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:Mm.
Junie Moon (:with my relationship for the last 25 years isn't working anymore. And
Andrea Knoche (:Mm.
Junie Moon (:it's tapping in. It's like like I have emotion going on right now and it's probably Dawn's remedy. Dawn, Dawn, I'm blaming you.
Andrea Knoche (:Mm.
Dawn Wiggins (:It probably is. Blame the homeopathy.
Laurie Gerber (:Bad on, bad on.
Junie Moon (:But seriously, ladies, I'm
like emotional around that things have changed and my body's different, and that I'm leaning in more and more, doing the inner work, going, well, I'm uncomfortable right
Karen Viesta (:you
Junie Moon (:now with this thing in my in my life or with my kid or with my health. I mean, there's been things going on, and the food has been calling me. And it's
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:Mm.
Junie Moon (:because my relationship has
Andrea Knoche (:Mm.
Junie Moon (:changed with the food and
what's
inside of me has changed. And it's like those two things, I don't know if I'm being clear, but those two things are are wonky again. The thing is that's different is I see it. I I mean I
Dawn Wiggins (:Hmm.
Junie Moon (:I've been seeing the wonkiness. I've been seeing the shakiness.
Andrea Knoche (:Yeah.
Junie Moon (:I've been seeing the well I could have some cookies and then the next day going, what the fuck? Like what did you just do? versus
Ozzie Osborne (:Guilt. Yeah.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:Right.
Junie Moon (:there was always a place for the cookies. And so
Okay, wait a second. I was able to do a cookie or do before, but maybe not right now. Like I need
Ozzie Osborne (:Yeah.
Junie Moon (:to r do that reclamation
Laurie Gerber (:Mm.
Junie Moon (:of I am in a different place right now. My body's in a different place might right now. I need to go so much more deeply into that deep self-love and and deep care right now because things are different. And so the shadow work I'm realizing I need to do is around change and loving myself with where I'm at right now.
'Cause things have been hard for me and I'm just being really, l really vulnerable around this. Food has been shaky for me. And now I'm going,
Andrea Knoche (:Yeah.
Junie Moon (:yeah, because things are shaky right now. And so hopefully that remedy kicks in really soon.
Andrea Knoche (:Yeah.
Dawn Wiggins (:Yes.
Junie Moon (:Thanks for listening around that.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:Well that that makes sense,
Juni. I mean, we all have our own copy we all have coping mechanisms. If it's not food, it's something else. So whenever that thing is calling us, we can blame the food or we can try to fix the food, but really it's just a beautiful friend that is just saying, I'm uncomfortable. And so I'm
Junie Moon (:Yeah.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:gonna I'm gonna have you think about cookies and hopefully you will know that it's not about the cookies.
Junie Moon (:Right,
Ozzie Osborne (:Mm-hmm.
Junie Moon (:right.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:And so
it's just a beautiful
Laurie Gerber (:Hmm.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:sign. I mean, I've been doing this work for a really long time. I've been in recovery for a long time and I still have my moments. And now I'm so and then I would have shame and I have imposter syndrome and all these things. And now I'm like, no, no, no. This is the way my body gets my attention. This this
Junie Moon (:Yes, yes.
Andrea Knoche (:Mm.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:is how I've always listened to it, because I trained it to
Andrea Knoche (:Yeah.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:teach you know, to to get crazy with food in order for me to finally listen. I speak cookie.
Laurie Gerber (:Friend. I sp I speak cookie. I speak cookie.
Andrea Knoche (:Okay.
Junie Moon (:Yeah.
Dawn Wiggins (:Ladies, I'm cracking
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:Right?
Dawn Wiggins (:up because my daughter has been calling chocolate chip cookies mental health cookies all summer.
Karen Viesta (:Hahaha!
Laurie Gerber (:Yeah.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:my
gosh.
That's funny, Don.
Andrea Knoche (:They're so healing.
Karen Viesta (:you
Ozzie Osborne (:Mental health cookies. I love it.
Junie Moon (:my goodness. Yeah. I speak cookie.
I speak cookie and it and it is something's up. Listen, you know, yeah, the
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:І на
Junie Moon (:other sound effects. You know,
Andrea Knoche (:Yeah. Yeah.
Junie Moon (:to the deeper. But I'm not sweeping it under the rug. I mean it really is present and I'm really working it
Andrea Knoche (:Yeah.
Junie Moon (:and thankfully for the tools that I have.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:Yes.
Junie Moon (:yeah, yeah, this is
this is good.
Andrea Knoche (:Juni, I
I wonder how how has things changed being with Michael now that you're in this beautiful relationship
Junie Moon (:Hmm.
Andrea Knoche (:that's such a loving relationship. Has it allowed you? Maybe that's why you're now like, I need a cookie, because you're so calm with yourself
Junie Moon (:Ha ha
Andrea Knoche (:and your relationship. And you feel, you know, when we do that, we're like, yeah, I can have one because you feel like you're in this great place, right?
Junie Moon (:You know, there
is something to be said about that, and I've looked at that
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:No
Junie Moon (:one too, because
Andrea Knoche (:Yeah.
Junie Moon (:he's thankfully so in love with me and my body, you know? I mean, sometimes, and
Andrea Knoche (:Mm. That's amazing.
Junie Moon (:it's still it's hard to admit this still to this day, it's like, if I could see through his eyes, you know, the way he sees me.
Andrea Knoche (:Yeah, yeah.
Junie Moon (:It's like, I love your legs, and their the voice goes.
you fucking love my legs like whoa you
Karen Viesta (:Hahaha.
Laurie Gerber (:Yeah.
Junie Moon (:know it's like so so there's this man that says I love your curves I love how you are and and I'm like don't you see that I just gained seven pounds you know it's like like I'm so noticing
my own judgment and my own
Andrea Knoche (:Yeah.
Junie Moon (:thoughts but it also gives me the wow I can relax and just figure this out and not feel like I was in the past with the whip I better get my act together or I'll lose his love.
Andrea Knoche (:Mm, mm hmm yeah.
Junie Moon (:That's not here. So I'm just with
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:Mm-hmm.
Junie Moon (:myself around this, which is beautiful with the loving support. And I share this with him. I share, I'm feeling raw right now.
Andrea Knoche (:Yeah, it's huge.
Junie Moon (:I'm having a rough day right now. I need to be really clean and I can't have any crap in the house right now. Like, like like I share this with him and then he just loves me even more. So yeah,
Ozzie Osborne (:No.
Andrea Knoche (:Yeah. Yeah.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:Yes.
Laurie Gerber (:Mm-hmm.
Junie Moon (:it's a good question, Andrea. I'm able to relax on a deeper level and that allows me to go, well, what else is here? What's old that's coming
Andrea Knoche (:Mm-hmm.
Junie Moon (:up that is that that's out of sync?
Ozzie Osborne (:They've also done
Andrea Knoche (:Yeah.
Ozzie Osborne (:studies on on how the food metabolizes based on what you say to yourself as you're eating it, right? You're ingesting toxic thoughts and and
Laurie Gerber (:As you eat it.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:yeah.
Dawn Wiggins (:That's what I was going to, yeah, yeah.
Ozzie Osborne (:right. So it i if you're ingesting it with guilt or you're ingesting it with with I'm this is a bad thing, I know I'm gonna do a cheat meal and you're taking it in, it's going to metabolize as such, right? Whereas if
Andrea Knoche (:Mm.
Ozzie Osborne (:you come from love or you come from gratitude or you come from consciousness, it might metabolize a bit different. So I I I I
Junie Moon (:It's true.
Ozzie Osborne (:Probably why Andrea
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:Yes.
Andrea Knoche (:Mm.
Ozzie Osborne (:you asked that question, right? If if Juni's man is making her feel a certain something and she's eating with him as she's feeling a certain something, probably different
Andrea Knoche (:Yes.
Ozzie Osborne (:than when she's alone with her thoughts and eating this with guilt and how it yeah.
Andrea Knoche (:Yeah. Yeah.
And well, especially with him telling you, you know, how beautiful you are and that he loves you the way you are. I mean, I I love that because that's somebody who just adores you exactly as you are. And it reminds me of like pheromones when you have like all of these be you know,
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:Yeah.
Andrea Knoche (:like sometimes I'll get smelly armpits, right? And I'm like, gross. But like the man that I'm with is like, you know, taking it all in. He's like, it's so good, you know? And it's weird. It is weird. It's weird.
Junie Moon (:Let me lick your armpits.
Ozzie Osborne (:god.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:Yeah. It's so good though.
Ozzie Osborne (:yeah, yeah, yeah.
Lori.
Andrea Knoche (:And yes.
And so that reminded me of that, like how you know, we see ourselves a certain way. And I'm like, Rose, you're smelling my armpits, but like they love you and just see you, you know? And I think that's a beautiful thing. It's really nice. A
Laurie Gerber (:You're an animal You are one
Junie Moon (:Mm.
Dawn Wiggins (:Thank
Andrea Knoche (:smelly one.
Junie Moon (:Ha ha ha.
Andrea Knoche (:Thank you for sharing that, Juni. I know that wasn't easy.
Junie Moon (:Yeah, thanks.
Andrea Knoche (:Yes, yes. Karen, what do you got? You're quiet over there today.
Karen Viesta (:Yeah,
you know, I have so many thoughts going because I feel like there are a lot of layers to this for me. The one layer is that I was a teenager in the 80s and we all remember what the supermodels in the 80s looked like. So that's one very
Ozzie Osborne (:Wave.
Andrea Knoche (:Yes. Wave models, yeah.
Dawn Wiggins (:dancer.
Karen Viesta (:real piece of this. The other piece is that I was a dancer and very aware of how my body looked.
compared to the other girls I danced with and I was definitely a more muscular build than a lot of them. And then I was also growing up in an Italian household, in a family that loved food, but with a mother who was very conscious about her body and her weight. And you know, I hate, I always feel like moms get a bad rap because as much as I can say,
She passed on some of her neuroses to me. She also passed on, you know, a knowledge and understanding about nourishment and understanding about the need to move my body. So it wasn't all bad, but I think I had a fear of gaining weight from a very young age. So food kind of, know,
Andrea Knoche (:Mm.
Karen Viesta (:food and fear had a bit of a connection for me.
Ozzie Osborne (:Mm.
Andrea Knoche (:Yeah.
Karen Viesta (:You know, and even now, it's interesting, Juni, when you were talking about how your relationship with food kind of comes around again, I am struggling with some of the same things I struggled with in puberty, which is, you know, that sense of like, you know, I'm doing the same thing, but my body looks different. And, you know, I'll see pictures of myself from a few years ago. Like I did this boudoir photo shoot.
a couple of years ago for my guy. And I hate even looking at those pictures right now because it just
Andrea Knoche (:Mm.
Karen Viesta (:reminds me that I don't look like that anymore. It's like there's
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:Mm
Karen Viesta (:definitely a fear of losing control and my body going haywire. know, like that's kind of, I think, an undercurrent
Ozzie Osborne (:Mm, makes sense.
Karen Viesta (:that subsided for a long time. And like you, Juni, I think it's like popping up again in a different form, you know?
Junie Moon (:Yeah,
'cause the
Andrea Knoche (:Mm.
Junie Moon (:loss, I mean, to me, so much of my life I've had a huge loss throughout my whole life. And food was my comfort, food was my safe haven. So loss of of what I knew around my body, loss of my son, loss of a lot of things. You know, there's there's yeah, a lot of difference right now. Mm, interesting.
Andrea Knoche (:Mm. Mm.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:There's also our society is banking on us feeling fear of food. They're banking
Andrea Knoche (:Mm.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:on us
Junie Moon (:Mm.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:feeding into diet culture and the diet industry and the six, seven billion, eight billion dollar industry. So it's just so
Andrea Knoche (:Yeah.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:it the thoughts if we could look at diet culture thoughts, they're all around us. Even if we're feeling good, I feel like there's there's that constant
opportunity for us to clean up how we're speaking about ourselves and what we're saying and noticing what other people are saying and how we're feeling. So I just think that's important because sometimes we get upset at ourselves for putting ourselves down and we have to realize we're part of a society that's doing that all the time and we are a
part of
Ozzie Osborne (:Correct.
Junie Moon (:Yeah.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:it.
Andrea Knoche (:Mm.
Ozzie Osborne (:Correct.
Andrea Knoche (:Wow. Yeah, that's interesting. I also feel like when you just said that society is such a big part of it, you know, I think with fast food, there's so much fast food all around, right? And that gives us that comfort too. You know, we're we're out late and we're like, I want, you know, Taco Bell or McDonald's or something. And and we want to just feed into that, but also the side of like,
It's cheap, right? Like they put all that fast food on the value menu. You know, and that steers people away too from finding, you know, the little bit healthier food or going a different path. I know that you know, some McDonald's fries will do it right for me. But it's just hard. I don't know. It's hard out there. Dawn, what are you going through?
Dawn Wiggins (:Yeah,
wow, what a wise group of women I'm sitting with. So the
Andrea Knoche (:Ha ha ha.
Dawn Wiggins (:body recovers and the body digests when it feels safe.
And safety can be established outside, like in our environment, right? Am I in a safe environment? Do I feel safe with the people I'm around? Are they safe people? And safety can be established with inside of ourselves. What are my thoughts? What are my feelings? How do I see myself? Am I self accepting or not? Right. And so.
I grew up in an environment that never ever felt safe.
Ozzie Osborne (:Is that?
Dawn Wiggins (:And that's really sort of extreme, but I think it's probably true. My mom was very health conscious. She's a nurse, very like holistically minded, really was conscious of food choices, did not buy into food as pleasure at all.
And on the flip side, my dad is like, let's do it all the time, Boundaryless, like binge eating sugar all the time kind of situation.
Andrea Knoche (:Mm.
Dawn Wiggins (:So there were so many interesting
Laurie Gerber (:Wow. Diversity.
Dawn Wiggins (:messages, right? Yeah. Yeah. But I ended up,
you know, chronically ill most of my life with a significant amount of gut dysbiosis and would restrict a lot of my food. Did not see food as pleasure. I mean, of course I knew that it was right, but there was no permission for me to treat food that way because I needed it.
to keep my body functioning optimally because my body was having such a hard time. But this was like a system that was feeding itself, right? When the thing I really needed to be dialed into was pursuing a sense of safety. That was the thing I needed
Andrea Knoche (:Mm-hmm.
Dawn Wiggins (:to pursue more than
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:Mm.
Dawn Wiggins (:anything. Because when we feel
Ozzie Osborne (:Yeah.
Junie Moon (:Hundred percent.
Andrea Knoche (:Yeah.
Dawn Wiggins (:safe, there's room for pleasure. When you're feeling danger all the time, you're not worried about pleasure. You're worried about surviving.
Andrea Knoche (:Yeah.
Dawn Wiggins (:And so food and certain foods, especially with sugar, what we would relate to is toxins in there, that would just fuel the threat that I was perceiving, right? Because these things are dangerous, and I'm already so sick, and all of that crap, right? So.
This
is why we know I'm so all in on the therapy and the homeopathy and the things because we can know certain data about food like Ozzie your point about if we relate to this drink or this cookie as toxic, we're going to metabolize it as such. But if you don't embody that thing, if it's not, you know, grown roots and have that felt sense of safety as you're drinking the drink or eating your cookie, you can't gaslight yourself out of these dynamics. And I think
Andrea Knoche (:Mm.
Dawn Wiggins (:that's what so many women really struggle with, right, is finding this embodied sense of
safety and self acceptance. so,
Junie Moon (:Mm.
Dawn Wiggins (:gosh, today I will eat the mental health
Andrea Knoche (:Wow.
Dawn Wiggins (:food. Like I eat chocolate, most of the like Lori's, you know, whatever, grabbing for zucchini is me with my polyphenols, my dark chocolate.
Ozzie Osborne (:Yeah.
Dawn Wiggins (:But I'll eat anything now. Now I'll
Andrea Knoche (:Mental health cookie.
Laurie Gerber (:Yes.
Dawn Wiggins (:go to a restaurant and I'll order anything. And that is, you know, in the last five years development, because before that, you know, I would not. And I'm still cleaning up gut dysbiosis, right? When we have bacterial imbalance in the gut, it messes with our mental health and it messes with our felt sense of safety, right? Too much bacteria
Ozzie Osborne (:Mm-hmm.
Dawn Wiggins (:or not
Andrea Knoche (:Mm.
Dawn Wiggins (:enough of the right bacteria, we're not going to feel safe. That's like,
Ozzie Osborne (:Yeah.
Dawn Wiggins (:I wish more people understood. So.
Andrea Knoche (:Yeah.
Dawn Wiggins (:Yeah, pursue safety rather than a number on the scale and then it all clicks.
Ozzie Osborne (:Hm. Well said.
Andrea Knoche (:Yeah. Oof.
Junie Moon (:Nice.
That was a good one.
Andrea Knoche (:Wow. Wow.
Marla, this must you must hear a lot of this all the time, no? Or is this like feel very new to you? I'm sure not. Yeah.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:no. It you're
I think you're all I mean, you're speaking to so many beautiful things. And what's great about this conversation is I think that most women who are listening can relate to every to every piece of this.
Andrea Knoche (:Yeah.
Yeah. It's so wild. So when I I've always loved food. I'm not like a big foodie. I've never fully understood that. People that just love sauces and you know, all my friend gave me like bone marrow once and I was like, you love it? See, right there. I'm like, even the name,
Ozzie Osborne (:I love Pomero. Love. Love.
Laurie Gerber (:Love it too. my God, I love it.
Karen Viesta (:I do too.
Andrea Knoche (:why am I eating bone marrow? You know, and so
Junie Moon (:Ha ha ha.
Andrea Knoche (:no, see, that's it.
Ozzie Osborne (:What about liver, Andrea?
Laurie Gerber (:Source of life. Mm, love liver.
Andrea Knoche (:But you know what? You
Laurie Gerber (:Love it.
Andrea Knoche (:can say liv you love liver, but and that was always one of those punishment type foods, right? Like you don't wanna have to have liver and onions or something, you know? I know. That
Laurie Gerber (:Not for the Jews, not for the Jews, Andrea. Not
Junie Moon (:Right? Yum, yum,
Karen Viesta (:Yeah.
Junie Moon (:yum, yum, yum.
Laurie Gerber (:for the Jews.
Ozzie Osborne (:I'm making chopped
liver in a retreat, guys.
Laurie Gerber (:We understand liver.
Karen Viesta (:Sorry.
Andrea Knoche (:my God. We understand
liver. But I think there's also so many foods that have progressed and changed, like Brussels sprouts, right? Like that used to be a punishment food. I feel like Brussels now they're the on every, you know, menu and we're ordering them because now they got bacon and they've got yeah,
Laurie Gerber (:Right. Right. Pot. They've been reclaimed. Yes.
Dawn Wiggins (:Food menu, yeah.
Andrea Knoche (:balsama, all the good stuff on them. but I've always had a weird thing about food. I don't and I don't know if it's texture, it's just the
thought of it. I don't know. But things that I ate growing up was fine. But if I didn't, then that's weird for me. So I pretty much have a category. If I really don't eat anything white and creamy and this does not go well for dating. I'm just gonna say. Nobody got that joke.
Laurie Gerber (:Wait, are talking about cum are you
Dawn Wiggins (:my word.
Laurie Gerber (:talking about cum right now?
Karen Viesta (:Ha
Dawn Wiggins (:my word.
Laurie Gerber (:She just changed the subject.
Andrea Knoche (:Nobody got that joke.
Yes, good.
Laurie Gerber (:I just didn't believe you were saying that.
Andrea Knoche (:Yes, because I always have to like say it with like when Yes, yeah.
Ozzie Osborne (:We g we get it.
Laurie Gerber (:We are thinking about
food, Andrea.
Ozzie Osborne (:sorry, sorry. Whew.
Junie Moon (:Food and sex,
Andrea Knoche (:See food and sex go like yes, yes. Pleasure. It's all pleasure. But but it's
Junie Moon (:they go very closely together in a lot of ways. It comes in
Laurie Gerber (:It's true. It's true. Okay, fine.
Ozzie Osborne (:Pleasure, food, white, creamy.
Andrea Knoche (:very true and it's very consistent. So like if I were to list off the things that I don't eat, won't eat, make me gag, it would be like whipped
Laurie Gerber (:Whipped cream, cream of wheat.
Andrea Knoche (:cream. Cream of wheat. Who even names it that? Whipped cream, cream of wheat. ranch. It's the cream right there.
Laurie Gerber (:Word cream offenser ranch.
Dawn Wiggins (:Rand Alfredo.
Andrea Knoche (:Ranch blue cheese,
Laurie Gerber (:Sour cream.
Andrea Knoche (:mayonnaise, sour cream, cottage cheese, yogurt, milkshakes.
Laurie Gerber (:Andrea okay, Marla,
can you please tell us what this
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:Wow, interesting.
Laurie Gerber (:is about, really?
Andrea Knoche (:What's that from?
Dawn Wiggins (:my
Andrea Knoche (:I don't know. Is that not
Dawn Wiggins (:goodness, the homeopathic brain right now is so excited. This is the strange rare and peculiar thing that I've been looking for. Yes.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:Right, it's fascinating.
Laurie Gerber (:That is qu that is quirky, Andrea. That's quirky.
Andrea Knoche (:weird? But I have to believe it's some sort of texture thing. But I'll eat like Thousand Island. But I grew up on that. So
Dawn Wiggins (:Stay tuned, Andrea, stay tuned. It's not white,
Ozzie Osborne (:And pizza. You like your pizza?
Dawn Wiggins (:it's orange. It's orange.
Ozzie Osborne (:Pizza is orange?
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:Well, there is a whole
Andrea Knoche (:But it's mixed with
mayonnaise, right? Isn't it?
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:you know, there's a whole
category of eating disorders. You know, you
Andrea Knoche (:Might be right.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:could say bulimic or anorexic, and there's one called APID and it's all about texture and it
Andrea Knoche (:R Fid.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:yeah, and so and the thing
Dawn Wiggins (:avoidant restrictive.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:is, Andrea, like
Sometimes like, well, like if you're living your best life without mayonnaise, I mean I don't know how anyone can do that, but if it's but
Andrea Knoche (:Yeah
Karen Viesta (:Right.
Junie Moon (:Ha ha ha ha!
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:if it's good for you and it's not
Andrea Knoche (:Yes.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:and where are you if you if you really wanted to if we really wanted to poke a little bit, like where
Andrea Knoche (:Mm-hmm.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:are you missing out on pleasure in life because of that, because that thing that you did, that that's in your
Andrea Knoche (:Yes.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:system.
That is is like
Andrea Knoche (:Yes.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:literally, it's in your nervous system, it's in your body, it's in the it's it's it's tension. And
Andrea Knoche (:Mm.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:so if you were to play with not thinking about it and having that normal but then not
Andrea Knoche (:Mm-hmm.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:going there, finding safety, no, you don't have to eat it, it's still gonna be over there, but can I just even imagine?
And what the space could create in your body, in your
Andrea Knoche (:Mm.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:mind, in your system, I think it would be fascinating.
Dawn Wiggins (:He is so excited right now.
Andrea Knoche (:Fascinating.
Laurie Gerber (:Marla,
I'm just like taking your point to Andrea and putting it on the things that I'm having an
Andrea Knoche (:On yourself.
Laurie Gerber (:aversion to, right?
Ozzie Osborne (:On the platter.
Laurie Gerber (:Like I feel like I I imagined you were talking about butt stuff, you know, like as you were saying that. Like I think that's a pretty
Andrea Knoche (:You're like,
Laurie Gerber (:you I mean, I have the same reaction to that as you have to whipped cream. But why? Right?
Dawn Wiggins (:Yeah, the idea of being able to soften into discomfort. Yeah, yeah.
Andrea Knoche (:That's funny.
Laurie Gerber (:Yeah, because something feels unsafe, but that's in my head. It's
Dawn Wiggins (:Yeah.
Laurie Gerber (:not like
whipped cream never hurt you and butt stuff never hurt me and it's in my mind, right? So it's an interesting
Andrea Knoche (:Mm-hmm.
Laurie Gerber (:Mar what Marla's saying is very interesting to apply to wherever you're like
Andrea Knoche (:Yes. Yes.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:And our bodies
Ozzie Osborne (:But Lori
Laurie Gerber (:To like what if you make space?
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:know things. Like sometimes there may be a reason we have to listen too. We don't wanna override that either and make ourselves
Andrea Knoche (:Mm.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:do
Laurie Gerber (:Curious.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:anything. Yep, curious.
Dawn Wiggins (:Yeah, what I immediately thought of
when Marla was talking about that was if I had you in an EMDR session Andrea, right? Like, and I could present you with a bowl of mayonnaise and we
Andrea Knoche (:Yeah, what would come out?
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:Yeah, well.
Dawn Wiggins (:started EMDR processing, you know, what memory
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:Yeah.
Dawn Wiggins (:would your mind, your brain take us to? Like there is something, there is an initiation point like the ground zero, yeah.
Andrea Knoche (:Yes. There
that sounds like pure torture, Dawn. Seriously? A bowl of mayonnaise
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:Yeah, Don, I agree.
Andrea Knoche (:just, there's something.
Ozzie Osborne (:Well, it that just goes to show it's not only in your mind. It's
Karen Viesta (:Yeah.
Ozzie Osborne (:actually
Dawn Wiggins (:Yeah.
Ozzie Osborne (:as as Marla mentioned, it's it's imprinted in your body. So if it's in your
Andrea Knoche (:Yeah, yeah.
Ozzie Osborne (:system, it's imprinted, it's it makes sense why you're having that reaction. And I think what
Andrea Knoche (:Yeah.
Ozzie Osborne (:Marla is just and Don and everyone else is pointing to is just can you imagine,
Dawn Wiggins (:Let's get curious.
Ozzie Osborne (:can you soften, can you be in the discomfort of the old thoughts and create a new experience?
Not change anything, but just create
Andrea Knoche (:Mm.
Ozzie Osborne (:a new experience for yourself so that you can get closer to pleasure so that it no longer is that right. It's no longer in the system.
Andrea Knoche (:Yes.
Ozzie Osborne (:It's no longer in the soma. Now it's now it's kind of it's easing up a bit.
Andrea Knoche (:Yeah. Yeah, it could absolutely be be related to something. I do I think I mentioned this before. There's a huge chunk of my childhood that I don't remember. I
Dawn Wiggins (:can't remember.
Andrea Knoche (:just completely blocked out. So it could be something in there that was traumatic for me. So yeah.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:I would likely
Ozzie Osborne (:The MDR.
Dawn Wiggins (:100%. Yeah, you and they are.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:think yes to that,
Andrea.
Andrea Knoche (:Somebody just bring the mayonnaise to the retreat, would ya? no, no, I'm kidding. I'm kidding.
Laurie Gerber (:No, that's mean.
Yuki, we're not just doing desensitization. No, no. That would be mean.
Andrea Knoche (:That would be horrible. That would ruin the whole
Dawn Wiggins (:We might. We might.
Ozzie Osborne (:yes we are.
Andrea Knoche (:trip.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:Yeah.
Andrea Knoche (:she's like, yes it would. Well
Dawn Wiggins (:the mayonnaise and the EMDR therapist
and we will be on our way.
Ozzie Osborne (:And chop liver.
Andrea Knoche (:So
good. Ugh, so good. Well, thank you, ladies,
Laurie Gerber (:Chop liver. We'll make you love liver people.
Andrea Knoche (:for all sharing that. That is like wild how vulnerable that was talking about food, right? Like compared to some of the other
Laurie Gerber (:Yeah, totally.
Andrea Knoche (:things that we've touched based on so many times. So we have this wonderful woman here, Marla. Let's talk a little bit about you. Let's tell everybody who you are. So just a reminder, you're a TEDx speaker, best-selling author, and a spiritual guide who helps women and their lifelong battle with food by healing the wound beneath it.
The soul-level longing for unconditional love that food could never satisfy. And
Laurie Gerber (:Hmm.
Andrea Knoche (:after decades of struggling with chronic fatigue and her own relationship with food and body, Marla discovered that lasting freedom required healing her relationship with God and herself. That's huge. Through her kingdom healing activation work, she now guides women to silence the deafening food noise, reclaim their bodies as sacred messengers, and step into embodied feminine leadership.
Marla is the author of Befriend Yourself, Finding Freedom and From Obsession to Freedom. She's the founder of Love Your Body, Love Yourself, offering transformational coaching and sacred Maui empowerment retreats. Woof. Her work helps women
Laurie Gerber (:Yeah yeah.
Andrea Knoche (:move from body shame and food obsession to magnetic presence, spiritual freedom, and unshakable power.
Ozzie Osborne (:Mm.
Andrea Knoche (:Wow. That is beautiful. Absolutely beautiful. And why is your retreat in Maui?
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:'Cause I live in 'cause I live in Maui. Yeah.
Ozzie Osborne (:Love Maui.
Andrea Knoche (:I did not know that. I missed that message. that
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:Yeah.
Andrea Knoche (:makes total sense.
Ozzie Osborne (:I love Maui.
Andrea Knoche (:Total sense. Beautiful, beautiful. So, Marla, so your story didn't begin with food. It began with your own healing journey, really, right? So you spent years believing the answer was to change your body. Was what was the like specific moment when you realized this is not about food anymore? Tell us your story.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:hints
along the way that it wasn't about my food, but I mean there were so many dark nights of the soul. But I can just remember when I finally hit the number, and this is what I talk about this specific journey I talk about in my TEDx talk is when I got on the scale and my number was the number, like
Andrea Knoche (:Mm.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:under the number, and I was the most miserable I'd ever been in my life. And that's
Dawn Wiggins (:Still not happy.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:when I realized okay this has nothing to do with it. And I was succeeding. I was winning.
Right. I won.
Andrea Knoche (:Mm-hmm.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:I was the number. And I was I I I mean, my life was so small and and s and I was so
Andrea Knoche (:Mm.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:about the food. And it was so about my body. And that's when I realized, okay, no, I need I need to get help. Now the journey between that moment and actually healing from it took me a really, really long time because I did not want to let go of control.
I knew and I had a moment with God and I heard a very long strong voice inside my head say it was after a binge or whatever the story was, and it was I got you. Just trust, like I I I got you. Like I will I will tell you what to eat, I will tell you how to move your body, like that was the and I was like, No, I can't do it.
Laurie Gerber (:Mm.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:And I knew, and that was even so devastating in that moment. It was so heartbreaking. And I just remember like crying and crying because I knew the answer. I knew the answer was to be let go of control. And I couldn't do it.
Ozzie Osborne (:Yeah.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:But then when I've looked on that moment, it wasn't that I couldn't do it. I needed, and this is where we titrate, right? I needed to, okay, I'm gonna trust you with this meal.
I'm gonna trust, I'm gonna learn how to listen to my body, I'm gonna learn how to be with my body, and I'll let go and then I'll take the control back. And then I'd let go and then I take the control back. So for me, and what I see with recovery from the food noise, the restriction, the binging, and that's why the whole idea of like, do a six-week course and never binge eat again,
Andrea Knoche (:Mm-hmm.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:like it's just not
It is it is a journey. And so for me it was I had more and more moments of being free. So
Dawn Wiggins (:surrendered.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:it was like, okay, my gosh, I haven't I haven't spoken really nasty to myself for s for for
Ozzie Osborne (:Mm.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:five weeks. Wow. Okay.
Andrea Knoche (:Well
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:And then it would go longer and like wow, I I I I I'm I'm I'm eating well, which meant for me like I'm I'm not in the food noise, I'm not obsessing, and then the and it would come back again.
But them every time it came back, I had the opportunity to learn about myself and to love myself. And see, so
Ozzie Osborne (:Beautiful.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:the journey of healing your relationship with your body and your food, most people think it is to heal your to fix it. But really
Andrea Knoche (:Mm.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:what Juni, when you were speaking, really what it is is to have that deep level of love and compassion. It is a it is it is growth, it is a
deep
journey of
Ozzie Osborne (:Mm-hmm.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:loving self. And so although food and negative body image has been so such a painful journey for me, I've really learned how how to love myself. I've learned how to, and my book is called Befriend Yourself because I've learned to become my own best friend.
Ozzie Osborne (:Mm.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:And it just
Andrea Knoche (:Yeah, it's
Junie Moon (:Mm.
Andrea Knoche (:beautiful.
Laurie Gerber (:Marla, I just wanna amen something you said about the the role of God as well or a higher power source, whatever you relate to that as, because you're reminding me the first thing a coach ever said to me about my eating and my relationship with food up until I hired a coach was a love affair, aka an obsession. Like an a
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:Right.
Laurie Gerber (:It
w it was an addiction, right? And and I treated it addictively. And that was ha my relationship with food was something I used and abused. And then the coach said something to me about like, have you ever thought of the beautiful food that God made? And I had literally
Andrea Knoche (:Right.
Laurie Gerber (:never thought about it. Like a strawberry, a zucchini, a a a nasturtium, a piece of lettuce, a kale like this.
Honestly, if you think about it for a minute, and I had not in my ther by the time I was in my 30s, of like, it is a mirac food is a miracle. It like I can't even think
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:Yes.
Laurie Gerber (:of something that's more miraculous than food. That's more like proof there's something bigger than us. Right. Like, so
Andrea Knoche (:Yeah.
Laurie Gerber (:she said that, and all of a sudden, a whole different relationship with God, you know, with source emerged, and a whole different relationship
Dawn Wiggins (:emerged right there.
Laurie Gerber (:with me and like, okay, maybe me and food is actually me and God talking.
Like me and God having
Ozzie Osborne (:Mm.
Laurie Gerber (:a relationship, right? Like I'm
Andrea Knoche (:Mm.
Laurie Gerber (:gonna appreciate this beautiful thing you've made for me
Ozzie Osborne (:Mm-hmm.
Laurie Gerber (:and put it inside me and see how it feels, and then get to
do your work with the energy that it gives me because
Ozzie Osborne (:Beautiful.
Laurie Gerber (:that's why I
Dawn Wiggins (:Whoa.
Laurie Gerber (:exist, right? Like, whoa! It totally and you just made
Andrea Knoche (:Yeah. Yes.
Dawn Wiggins (:Whoa.
Laurie Gerber (:me remember that because I didn't remember that the first thing that happened before I started to be to control my eating was to change my whole relationship.
With food and to bring a higher consciousness into it. So just wanted to amen that.
Junie Moon (:Mm.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:And Lori, what I would
say about that is specifically with where you are right now and you're writing out all those emotions, that you can use this. So lots of times we wanna we wanna just go away, we wanna make the food fix, but if you can find if you can find God in that relationship and you can slow down to be in appreciation for the food,
Ozzie Osborne (:Mm-hmm.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:you're not fixing the anxiety. You are going into a whole other realm of
Laurie Gerber (:Right. I'm going into prayer. Right. Yeah. Ritual. Yeah.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:Gratitude. You're going into prayer, but you're not doing it like you know,
we're like, I gotta get rid of the anxiety so that I don't have it with my food and then I'll digest it. No, you're you're literally like doing it completely different from a place
Ozzie Osborne (:Yeah.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:of appreciation. It's so beautiful, right? Now it's about now it's about you
Laurie Gerber (:Yeah. Yeah.
Junie Moon (:Mm.
Ozzie Osborne (:And
Andrea Knoche (:Mm.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:connecting to God and not you fixing how you're eating your food.
Laurie Gerber (:Really? Yeah.
Ozzie Osborne (:And you being
Junie Moon (:Major goosebumps.
Ozzie Osborne (:with
Andrea Knoche (:Ooh.
Junie Moon (:Whew.
Ozzie Osborne (:you being with not not right, not being in the doing, but you're being with you God, you know, just just in the presence
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:Yes.
Ozzie Osborne (:of of the allowance of what is as is, right? Which I know is is a work of progress.
Andrea Knoche (:Mm.
Dawn Wiggins (:And
all of those things that have you wound up in the pursuit of food are areas where you're having trouble trusting a higher power and you need
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:Amen.
Dawn Wiggins (:control, right? It all comes full circle. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Wow, we're just healing lives
Junie Moon (:Mm, yeah.
Dawn Wiggins (:right here in the middle of the mountain.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:Woo look at us.
Laurie Gerber (:Okay, what else can we fix?
Ozzie Osborne (:Whoop
whoop Hallelujah. Hallelujah.
Laurie Gerber (:Next
Junie Moon (:Powerful, powerful, powerful. Oof.
Andrea Knoche (:so Marlett, so you talk a lot about food noise, right? And I don't know that every woman r even realizes that she has that. Can you just kind of explain for the listeners what is food noise and especially during menopause, why is it so common? If
you think it is.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:so this is what food noise
is. Okay, what did I what should I eat today? I could have that cottage cheese, but no, I don't really like cottage cheese and but I could add I c I could add a little bit of nut butter to that, but then later on I'm gonna have have this for dinner and I mean it's like the constant
Andrea Knoche (:Mm.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:and then you eat the thing and then you're thinking about eating the thing and then you're thinking about what you're eating later and then you're looking over at your friend and seeing what they're eating on their plate and
I d but do you think she ate that whole thing or what sh wonder what she ate this morning that she could eat
Andrea Knoche (:But she can do that.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:that whole sandwich and I couldn't eat that whole sandwich. Well, I guess I could eat that whole sandwich. I worked out. Well, maybe I should work out, but I can't because my my leg really hurts and I and but my mom told me that my legs are ugly and I mean th that's what it is. It's just insane,
Andrea Knoche (:Yeah.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:constant,
Laurie Gerber (:Great demo.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:always there. It's a freaking
Junie Moon (:Exhausting.
Andrea Knoche (:Yes.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:exhausting. And this is the thing with food noise. When it is when it is a constant
I I've had I've said this and I've had clients say, I don't know what I'm gonna think about if I'm not thinking about food. I
Dawn Wiggins (:so good.
Andrea Knoche (:Mm.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:don't know what I'm gonna think about. I don't know what my life is gonna look like. So much of their identity is around
Ozzie Osborne (:It's tied.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:food. And this is this is
Andrea Knoche (:Dude.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:the thing with the identity. People come and I'll say this again, I just said it, to fix the food. They want to fix the weight. They don't realize that the beauty.
of having a beautiful relationship with your body and your food is the rest of your life opens up. But holy man, now I have to do my life. Now I have to show up. Now let's just get really yeah let's just get
Laurie Gerber (:That's why I was avoiding it. Yeah.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:real small here.
Andrea Knoche (:Mm.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:Let's just get into this little diet thing. Let's just
Ozzie Osborne (:Mm-hmm.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:get, you know, we'll just be here because I don't wanna have to show up.
Dawn Wiggins (:Because food noise is
Andrea Knoche (:Mm.
Dawn Wiggins (:numbing other emotions, other vulnerabilities, or other insecurities.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:Other things. All the things.
Ozzie Osborne (:Mm-hmm.
Dawn Wiggins (:Yeah. I'm so curious, Marla, do you see, this probably is maybe in our legs wide open thing, maybe like being a spoiler alert, but is counting macros food noise?
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:Everything
Laurie Gerber (:Hello?
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:that you everything that you could do could be food noise, right? When it comes to all of that. It's
Dawn Wiggins (:Could be.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:like Juni was saying, you can take a something that's good and then go crazy on it, right? So you may be, you know, it's just like, how many calories do I eat today? And now you're doing
Andrea Knoche (:Mm.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:it every day and you're thinking about it and you're counting. Or and this is the thing, where is it coming from? And it always has to be. I used to do these cleanses, and I was cleansing
Ozzie Osborne (:Mm-hmm.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:because I was being so kind to my body.
Really though, Marla? Really? No. You wanted to lose weight and you wanted to somehow
Andrea Knoche (:Mm-hmm.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:get a diet like where is it coming from? And usually it comes from the external. It's something someone else said that you should do rather than that real deep listening inside.
Ozzie Osborne (:Right, and even deeper. Correct. Correct.
Andrea Knoche (:Mm.
Junie Moon (:Yeah and the control.
Ozzie Osborne (:Mm-hmm.
Junie Moon (:And the cleansing,
Andrea Knoche (:Oof.
Junie Moon (:like I I know I've I use this thing called prolong, which I actually there's there's good stuff about it and I like about like a lot about it. At the end of the day, there's there is also the control. It's like, for five days I don't have to think about food. For five days, I well, I am doing something what I consider beneficial, but I know there's a component of it's gonna lower the food noise. I have control.
Well, or or I'm giving away my control on some level, it's structured. And the more structured, like whether it's macros, whether it's a diet, whether it's a cleanse, it's like, again, this is my thing that I'm noticing more and more. It's like, that's that's helping me lower the volume. Because if it's that, then I don't have to think about it. But where's
Andrea Knoche (:Mm.
Junie Moon (:the middle ground? How can I be with that and it not be trying to lower the volume of noise? Versus, can I really go to the
my business is a little shaky right now. I don't know where my next paycheck is coming from. Not that I even get a paycheck. It's like, where is my financial stability? What how is my life gonna be when Michael moves in? Like, that's the stuff. Can
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:Yeah.
Junie Moon (:I surrender
Andrea Knoche (:Yeah.
Junie Moon (:and connect to spirit? But no, let me look at the cookies. Like, like that's that
Andrea Knoche (:Yeah.
Junie Moon (:that's the thing that I'm in right now. And ultimately,
Laurie Gerber (:Mm.
Ozzie Osborne (:Yeah.
Junie Moon (:can I surrender and strengthen my relationship?
To my my my higher power and know it's all good. Yeah, I'm loving this conversation.
Ozzie Osborne (:Mm-hmm. Can I highlight
something? Because
Karen Viesta (:Yeah.
Ozzie Osborne (:I see this also in in relationship and men and other things too. But interesting in enough, who coined food noise, right? Because I feel like that's even another way for us to vilify food, right? It's it's a probably a way for the consumer for for businesses to make money off of us. So now we have a problem and now we have to fix it, right? Hence when when they when GLP came into the picture and talked about, you know.
No more food noise. You know, noise is noise. We have noise everywhere around us, whether you want to call it food noise, other noise, whatever it might be. If you have noise, if you have a dysregulated nervous system, you're gonna have noise. You're gonna have noise. Regardless of what whether it's food, whether it's whatever it is, right? So I I I think that that, you know, the noise i I guess I'm gonna ask a question now because
Can we move on to the GLP or the the would you be open to to talking about it?
Dawn Wiggins (:so much.
Ozzie Osborne (:Right? Cause is the noise important, right? 'Cause cause we can we look at the noise as as an alarm system that we like the that is talking to us that wants us to pay attention to something, or is the noise bad and we want it to go away? So I guess two things here. One that
Junie Moon (:Mm.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:Well, I
yeah, I I get what you're saying. And what you're pointing at is the same thing that we're talking about. We're we're not fixing the food noise. We were we're we're using the food noise, the obsession of the mind as a as a symptom to what is underneath, just like what Juni was saying. Everything is pointing, like you're saying, if you have a dysregulated nervous system, there's gonna be noise, right? So now we're working we're not we're not
Trying to stop the noise, we're trying to find, as Don was saying, safety. And so there's that continual journey of where do I, where am I? Where is my body? And how where in this experience am I safe? Right. And so to then turn that on to GLP1s, I guess my question would be: what is your question that you want to ask me about that?
Ozzie Osborne (:Yeah, I guess what is your take on it? Does it you know, is is it is it yet another band aid? Is it something I mean, I go I we could do a whole s a whole episode on it, but I'm just curious
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:Yeah, we could do a whole thing on that. Yeah.
Dawn Wiggins (:episode.
Andrea Knoche (:Mm-hmm.
Ozzie Osborne (:your from your perspective, from where you what you teach, where does that play a role as a tool?
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:Right. Well,
I would say do an episode on that. I think that's a really good idea for you guys to touch on that because I think
Andrea Knoche (:Mm. Yeah.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:so it's just so alive. It's so up for so many people. You know, I I my work as you can see is so deep. So it's sure I probably don't have people coming towards me because they are do doing GLP ones, but the people who I work with
are
the ones who are like, everyone's doing it all around me and I'm really jealous and I wish I could do it, but I won't do that to my body. That's that's who that's who I
Dawn Wiggins (:you.
Junie Moon (:Poop boop poop.
Andrea Knoche (:Mm.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:get, right? And I and I do feel I I I'm I'm I'm scared, honestly. I have a lot of fear to what is going to happen to the people that I see around me that I love. Because I it's like the wild, wild west out there. And
Ozzie Osborne (:Yes it is.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:and there's just one
I mean, I'm not saying I I'm not saying that all of it's bad. I think there are some benefits and I think there are some really good things that are happening for people. And I st I'm still s afraid. And I yeah. And I have a I have
Dawn Wiggins (:100%.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:a a a friend of mine who's in who's a doctor and she's like, You need Marla to work with people who are without the food noise.
And then do the deeper work underneath because when they stop taking the GLP ones, the food knew it's gonna be there. So go deeper. Heal that stuff, that wound.
Ozzie Osborne (:A hundred percent.
Dawn Wiggins (:Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
Ozzie Osborne (:Mm-hmm. It's a great
Andrea Knoche (:Mm.
Ozzie Osborne (:niche. Yes. Agree with you.
Dawn Wiggins (:I recently learned that one of the satiety cues that people are missing right when they're
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:Right.
Dawn Wiggins (:hopping on a GLP-1 is tied very, very specifically to the gut bacteria acromansia. And when we do not have enough of it, it is really hard for people to experience satiety. And so wouldn't you know you can get acromansia in both potency homeopathically and in a probiotic.
through special order. And furthermore, one of my current patients that I'm treating homeopathically who has struggled with obesity her whole life, one of the things that I was pursuing with her before I ordered acromansia and potency was all of the gut bacteria needed from antibiotic abuse from when she was very, very young. And so the whole system is just feeding itself, overprescribing antibiotics, decimating the gut, and then
Ozzie Osborne (:Mm-hmm.
Dawn Wiggins (:and not having the bacteria that are essential for satiety cues and then giving you another
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:Mm.
Dawn Wiggins (:drug for that. It is terrifying when you look at
Andrea Knoche (:Mm.
Dawn Wiggins (:the trickle down effect
Ozzie Osborne (:Mm-hmm.
Dawn Wiggins (:of the entire system.
Junie Moon (:Mm.
Andrea Knoche (:Wow. Yeah. Wow. That's
Ozzie Osborne (:To bypass.
Andrea Knoche (:yeah. Yeah.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:And
when you have that food noise, you will do anything. And you
Dawn Wiggins (:anything.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:will you and if you could just poke yourself and have it go away, like I I I I get it. So much compassion for people who are dealing with, you know, food
Andrea Knoche (:Yeah.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:and obesity and all of that. That choice would be heavily
Andrea Knoche (:Really, really hard.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:you know, and promoted in your face.
Ozzie Osborne (:Mm.
Andrea Knoche (:Yeah.
It's
Dawn Wiggins (:So, Acromantia
Junie Moon (:I'm just
curious.
Dawn Wiggins (:coming in a noise, food noise, quieting homeopathic blend near you soon.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:That's
great. Thank you, Don.
Ozzie Osborne (:Yes. Sign
Andrea Knoche (:Coming so.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:That's amazing. I'm fascinated
Ozzie Osborne (:me up. Sign me up.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:by that. I wanna yeah,
Dawn Wiggins (:Yeah.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:that's
Junie Moon (:Curious though,
just just to I'd like to know here, who has some level of food noise? I know I do. I'm just curious who so
Karen Viesta (:Totally do.
Junie Moon (:so there's there's there's a you know a hand there's a like
Ozzie Osborne (:We all have noise. We all have noise.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:I mean I've ha I have, yeah.
Junie Moon (:at least four or five of us raising our hands right now. And what I just want to bring in here is welcome to being human,
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:Okay.
Junie Moon (:welcome to being
Andrea Knoche (:Mm.
Junie Moon (:programmed, welcome to the journey as a woman in this culture, and let's
Just take a breath into compassion for ourselves because it's so beyond, well, I just have this
thing in my body and my gut is off and all that stuff. It's so many pieces and we're indoctrinated every day with the media and what we witnessed with our moms and our dads. And my dad, you know, in the middle
Ozzie Osborne (:Amen.
Junie Moon (:of the night, I would hear him in the kitchen and he'd be eating entamins and you know, hiding food. Like like
Laurie Gerber (:Intimates.
Junie Moon (:we've all learned so many things. So I just just really
Andrea Knoche (:Yeah, yeah.
Junie Moon (:leaning into we've been programmed and and
And we can heal, and we can do the work.
Andrea Knoche (:Mm-hmm.
Junie Moon (:And let's be gentle with ourselves. We
Ozzie Osborne (:Amen.
Junie Moon (:are not alone in this.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:No or not.
Andrea Knoche (:Yes,
yes. It's it's wild while I'm listening to all of you. And you know, things just kind of pop into your head and reminders of growing up or how you were within your, you know, your marriage or your lifestyle and just the little things of you know, you mentioned like what am I gonna have for dinner after you finish lunch? And that triggered me of like the kids, you know what I mean? Like you just give lunch and they're like, What's gonna be for dinner, mom? You know, and then you know, I just remember thinking all the time, like, my god, is it time to eat again?
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:Yeah.
Andrea Knoche (:You know,
like when dinner's coming around every time and then you know my husband's coming home, like, what's for dinner? And you're like, I don't know. It just got exhausting doing that. And so I was just thinking of all these little triggers my ex-husband used to, he still does actually go to dinner and he's asking what the biggest thing on the menu is, you know, like the burrito. That's pretty big, right? Like, is that your biggest one, you know? And I it's like, my God, you know? I was
Laurie Gerber (:Bigger is better, apparently.
Andrea Knoche (:like,
Laurie Gerber (:Okay.
Andrea Knoche (:crazy where you know and and all of that I think has just turned me off of of food and I, you know, just I I don't have that food noise as much anymore 'cause I've just tried to let it go. Like I just I'm more eating food to live instead of living to eat, you know. And so that's I feel like I'm in a good place with that, but little things pop up all the time, you know, where you
Junie Moon (:Yeah.
Andrea Knoche (:feel that it's honey.
Dawn Wiggins (:especially if they're white and creamy.
Andrea Knoche (:Right and creamy. Just
Karen Viesta (:Nice, right?
Andrea Knoche (:knock out of here.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:Well, I was Andrea,
I was just in Japan and I was there for
Andrea Knoche (:huh.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:five weeks and to see the culture and to be in that culture where bigger doesn't mean better. No, I'm sure they have their
Andrea Knoche (:Mm.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:thing that is, you know, their whatever I'm I I know it's there. But, you know, the the American, the Western, like bigger, bigger, more, more, more and the way that they ate food.
Andrea Knoche (:Yes.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:They didn't eat food on the run. Even when you got coffee,
Andrea Knoche (:Mm.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:you they gave it it to you in a bag. So there
Ozzie Osborne (:Yeah.
Andrea Knoche (:Wow.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:was never this on the run sort of thing. And there would be signs that would say, Don't eat or drink here. Where normally
Andrea Knoche (:Mm.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:we would be walking and eating and
Andrea Knoche (:Yeah we were.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:and it was beautiful to see the amount of Robert's and
Laurie Gerber (:Reverence Reverence.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:the amount of control.
that I didn't I don't have around food because I'm like hungry I'm gonna eat it, you know. You know, sometimes I'll be at the grocery store and I'll buy something and I'll have some of it before I even pay for it, right? Because I'm hungry.
Andrea Knoche (:Yeah. Yeah.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:and I guess my point is that bigger, bigger more, more, more when you're really out of that and then you're really in a culture that is, as you I think it's Lori said, having reverence for food where you're present with it.
Ozzie Osborne (:Mm-hmm.
Andrea Knoche (:Mm. Mm.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:In that beginning
Laurie Gerber (:And if we really
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:middle.
Laurie Gerber (:did
have reverence for that, we wouldn't be letting ourselves get so hungry we had to eat while walking. Like if we were really
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:Yeah. Exactly.
Andrea Knoche (:Yeah.
Laurie Gerber (:present to the whole how it all how
everything works together. Yeah.
Karen Viesta (:Yeah. And Marla,
Andrea Knoche (:Yeah, yeah.
Karen Viesta (:I have a question because I
wonder if a lot of the food noise is also experienced by women because women have traditionally been the ones in charge of food. Like I'm listening to Andrea,
Andrea Knoche (:Mm.
Karen Viesta (:right? And that's very much my
Laurie Gerber (:Right.
Karen Viesta (:experience as well. I, you know, for all the years that I was married and even now to some degree.
I'm
the one responsible for making
Andrea Knoche (:No.
Karen Viesta (:dinners and you know, and yes, I might have help,
Andrea Knoche (:What?
Karen Viesta (:but I'm usually the one deciding what we're eating and I'm one who is mindful of this one eats this and that one doesn't eat that. You know, I wonder if some of that food noise is because of that.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:Yeah, I think it's exposure, right? You if you think about it, the woman makes the food, she says, Come out, dinner, and then the man comes and eats it, and then he goes and sits on the couch. So he's not even there when you're cleaning up. So he can't even shove another meal in his mouth while he's putting it away, right? Because he's not even around it. So
Laurie Gerber (:Mm.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:I think there is that exposure. I th I I think there's there's some truth to that.
Andrea Knoche (:Yeah.
Karen Viesta (:And I mean, it goes both ways. I'm with a man now who loves food as well. We have a big organic vegetable garden. And so sometimes we are talking about what we're making for dinner, you know,
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:Yeah.
Karen Viesta (:as we're eating breakfast, you know. But I do think,
Dawn Wiggins (:Breakfast. Yeah. Yeah.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:Yeah, it's okay.
Karen Viesta (:you know, he is in the kitchen with me and he is helping and whatnot. So there's also an excitement about food. You know, it isn't all negative. I think it's just...
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:Mm.
Karen Viesta (:It's just like an awareness. Every single day there's a certain amount of mental energy being spent on food. And again, not necessarily always negative, but I do think it's something that just is naturally present in every single day for me.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:think
it should be. I think we do want to spend time with our food. This is we want to spend time to plan and prioritize. When we don't, that's when we do shove a bunch of food in our mouth when we're at the grocery store, right? So
Andrea Knoche (:Yeah. Go rogue.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:I think there's I think if there's a very healthy and I wouldn't even call that noise. I would say just it's a it's a relationship. We have a a relationship with food, so we have to ha have conversations with it about it.
Laurie Gerber (:With
it. Right.
Karen Viesta (:care. Interesting.
Andrea Knoche (:Mm, yeah.
Dawn Wiggins (:It's very
indigenous, right? Like how indigenous people did food. Also, there was such reference, right? There was so much thinking the land, the relationship with the land that the food produced. Yeah, I mean,
Andrea Knoche (:Mm.
Dawn Wiggins (:we've completely disconnected from that.
Andrea Knoche (:Yes, I
Junie Moon (:Yeah, ritual, community,
communal, everybody doing it together. Yeah, things have
Andrea Knoche (:Hmm. Mm.
Junie Moon (:changed.
Andrea Knoche (:Oof. So good, you guys. So before we wind this down, Marla, when you hear women say, I hate my body, give us just like a a token or a nugget. Like what's really underneath those words? Just so people can really hear that from you.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:well first off it just breaks my heart. It
Andrea Knoche (:Yeah.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:just breaks my heart to hear anyone say I hate my body. And so my business is called Love Your Body, Love Yourself, which I think is also kind of triggering. Really? Really? You want me to love my body? Right. Come on, people. Come on, really.
Laurie Gerber (:Let's not go that far!
Karen Viesta (:Okay.
Junie Moon (:Ha ha ha.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:And so
What I like to teach people is you don't have to like your body, but you want to learn how to love it. So you may look in the mirror and you may not like what you see and you may be upset. And and let's face it, during this time where our bodies are changing, there are moments where like, I don't like this. What the heck is going on?
Andrea Knoche (:Mm. Many.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:I feel out of control. My body's doing things. What is going on? There's a sense of it it's it's terror.
I mean literally it's terror and it's survival mode terror because our bodies matter in this culture. And when you
Dawn Wiggins (:Right, because
we attached our worth to, you know, yeah, like our... No, we didn't.
Andrea Knoche (:Mm.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:But we didn't just do that, Don. We were we were it is
it it is true. There is thin privilege. And and so I just kinda got off on my tangent here. Hmm. So so thank you.
Laurie Gerber (:Love your body versus liking it.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:Yes. So if you
Ozzie Osborne (:Mm-hmm.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:don't like it, especially in this time, that's I'm back. I'm back. Okay. If you're not liking
Andrea Knoche (:Mm-hmm.
Junie Moon (:Mm-hmm.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:it in this time of looking in the mirror and not liking what's happening during this menopause.
You still want to show up and love it. You don't want to speak mean to it. You don't want to talk down to it. You still want to feed it. You want to give it nourishing food. Like what would what would your best friend do with your body? And so that is the that's the level. Hate is a whole other entity.
Ozzie Osborne (:Mm.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:That that is that that's deep disgust, and that is something that needs to be held in a whole other container.
But a lot of people are kind of going back and forth in that like but they they they know better. That's the thing. I know better to talk to myself like this. I know better
Andrea Knoche (:Yeah.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:to shame myself. And then that creates its own thing. And so that's why I say you don't have to like it, but you you can find respect and honor
Ozzie Osborne (:Mm-hmm.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:for your body moment by moment by moment by moment
moment.
Junie Moon (:Mm, I
Andrea Knoche (:So well said.
Junie Moon (:love that distinction. Mm-hmm.
Andrea Knoche (:So well said. Thank you. Thank you, Marla, for sharing
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:Mm-hmm. Yeah.
Andrea Knoche (:that. All right, we're gonna lighten it up a little bit and play a fun game. We're gonna do our legs wide open segment. We're gonna play feed it or free it. So I am gonna read out a belief, a habit, or a mindset. And we are all, including Marla, we're gonna have a few seconds to decide. Are we going to feed it? Thumbs up, or are we going to free it and get rid of it? All
right, ladies.
Dawn Wiggins (:None of your questions
are gonna involve white and creamy, right?
Andrea Knoche (:No white and greedy. I switched them out with counting macros, my dear. Just for you. All right. Okay, so here we go. First one, looking at yourself naked in the mirror. Are you gonna nurture that or are you gonna get rid of that? Yes, everybody is thumbs up.
Laurie Gerber (:Beautiful. We like it.
Andrea Knoche (:We like it. We learn from that.
Laurie Gerber (:Say nice things.
Andrea Knoche (:Say nice things. What do you say, Lori, when you look in the mirror when you what's a nice thing you say to yourself?
Dawn Wiggins (:I love that you asked that.
Laurie Gerber (:Hi, beautiful. Hi, cutie.
Looking good, gorgeous. And there's dancing and singing. Yeah.
Andrea Knoche (:Looking good. I did that before. I love
Ozzie Osborne (:Mm-hmm.
Andrea Knoche (:that. I would stick little sticky notes on my mirrors and say, you are beautiful.
Laurie Gerber (:Yes.
Andrea Knoche (:You are loved. You are all of those things. All right, counting calories. We're real close here, Dawn. Counting calories. Ugh that is the worst. You like it. Lori, you're the only one who likes it.
Laurie Gerber (:Yes. Ooh. I like it. I'm the only one who likes it. But I it's just it's for
Ozzie Osborne (:Boo. Boo boo boo boo and boo.
Laurie Gerber (:it's for the same reason Juni said before, which is like I don't trust myself like I don't wanna trust myself. I don't wanna have freedom to
Andrea Knoche (:Yeah. So it's control.
Laurie Gerber (:I just wanna stay I wanna stay on track of whatever I'm doing in the day and just know that I'm gonna end
Andrea Knoche (:Mm-hmm.
Laurie Gerber (:the day feeling good, right? Like feeling
Satiated and not overstuffed and counting calories helps. And I and
Andrea Knoche (:Mm.
Laurie Gerber (:I kind of know what happens at different calorie amounts. I kind of know what's gonna happen. So it makes me feel in control. I'm not saying people should
Andrea Knoche (:Do you do it for everything?
Laurie Gerber (:do it. I'm not saying people should do it. I'm just saying I like it. Sometimes. Sometimes. Yeah, I don't
Andrea Knoche (:Sometime sometimes. So you don't do it all the time.
Laurie Gerber (:I it's I'm not like teaching people to count calories, but it is
Andrea Knoche (:Yeah.
Laurie Gerber (:to me a very easy method of
limiting my food noise. Yeah. And no, I'm not perfect
Andrea Knoche (:Staying on track. Hmm. Okay. All right.
Laurie Gerber (:at it at all. It's like estimates. It's serious estimates. It's not I'm not I'm not obsessing. Yeah. Yeah.
Andrea Knoche (:Okay. Yeah.
Junie Moon (:And again, it's t it's a tool. It's a tool that you can use.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:It's a tool. Yeah. Yeah.
Andrea Knoche (:Yeah.
Yeah. Okay. waiting until you lose weight to buy new clothes. Are we feeding that or freeing it? I kinda I'm a little like
Junie Moon (:I've gotta say I'm a little
Laurie Gerber (:Right.
Andrea Knoche (:that. Okay, so we have
Laurie Gerber (:We're undecided, folks.
Andrea Knoche (:we have five thumbs down. you're undecided, Lori? Or you're Juni is thank you.
Laurie Gerber (:No no no, I'm just reporting to those listening on Spotify and Apple.
Andrea Knoche (:Thank you. Yes, five thumbs down and Juni and I are I mean I was pretty solid. Like but Juni's like, why are you in and out of that, Juni?
Junie Moon (:Well, first of all, I have more than enough clothes in my house. So I so I don't I don't need to to
Andrea Knoche (:Yeah. You don't need to.
Junie Moon (:do that. But but ul ultimately it's like if I I don't wanna it I d I don't wanna spend a lot of money on something that I don't think is gonna fit soon. As I'm dialing
Andrea Knoche (:Yeah. Yeah.
Junie Moon (:in my hormones, as my body is changing. If I need a new outfit, if I want a new outfit, I'm not gonna not get it. That's why it's like back and forth. It's like
Andrea Knoche (:Yeah.
Junie Moon (:I'm gonna
take care of myself. I'm not gonna wear something that doesn't feel good. I'm not gonna wear something that makes me feel frumpy or fat or anything like that. I wanna feel good in my clothes. So if what I have isn't working for me, I'm not gonna suffer and wait. However, I'm
Andrea Knoche (:Mm.
Junie Moon (:not running out to get new clothes because I really believe my body's
Andrea Knoche (:See where you want to be.
Junie Moon (:gonna change very soon. Yeah.
Andrea Knoche (:Okay. All right.
Good one. All right. this's tough for some people. Receiving compliments without dismissing them. I want to get rid of that. I do that all the time, right?
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:Wait, you wanna
Andrea Knoche (:so you wanna you want.
Junie Moon (:So yeah, yeah, that's a little
Laurie Gerber (:Wait, we want we want that. Wait, what? How does this work?
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:We want to receive them.
Ozzie Osborne (:Want that, no?
Andrea Knoche (:Yeah. I'm sorry. Yes. I had it backwards. My bad. Yes, yes. Yes, exactly. Exactly. So we're all on it.
Dawn Wiggins (:We want to receive compliments without dismissing them. Yeah. Without dismissing them.
Karen Viesta (:Yeah.
Junie Moon (:Receive compliments. Yes. And not dismiss them. Yes. Yes. Beautiful. Yes, thank you, Pierod. Not
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:Yeah, for sure. Absolutely.
Laurie Gerber (:Yes.
Ozzie Osborne (:It's a thank you period.
Dawn Wiggins (:Yeah.
Laurie Gerber (:Thank you.
Junie Moon (:thank you. I can't believe
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:Yeah.
Junie Moon (:you said that because I'm feeling like shit. Like that, yeah.
Andrea Knoche (:Yeah. Isn't
Dawn Wiggins (:Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Andrea Knoche (:that weird? We're like that. It's so hard to take a compliment,
yet we want a compliment.
Laurie Gerber (:know, I like to tell people
I like to tell people that I spend a lot of money on my appearance. So and I don't
Andrea Knoche (:You do.
Laurie Gerber (:think that's a problem. Yeah, 'cause I mean I'm still grateful for the compliment, but I don't want them to think it's like it didn't take anything or they
Andrea Knoche (:Yeah. It it's easy.
Laurie Gerber (:couldn't have it too
Dawn Wiggins (:I woke up like this.
Laurie Gerber (:if they spent the thousands of dollars on on treatments that I do.
Andrea Knoche (:Yes.
That's funny. I always love to tell people when I got a discount. You know, when they're like, I love your dress
Karen Viesta (:yeah.
Andrea Knoche (:and you're like, thanks, I got it at Target for $29.99. I don't know why
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:Right?
Andrea Knoche (:I feel the need to say that to them instead of, you know, because they have no idea to them I look like a million dollars. They could have it too, maybe. I'm just sharing, sharing my deals.
Laurie Gerber (:Exactly. Right. It means they could have it too. Yeah. You're sharing.
Andrea Knoche (:Yes. I like to share my coupons.
Junie Moon (:That's great. I I don't see a problem with that.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:I don't either. It's fun.
Andrea Knoche (:all right. Trusting your intuition.
Are we feeding it or freeing it? Yes,
Laurie Gerber (:We shouldn't do that.
Andrea Knoche (:we are definitely.
Karen Viesta (:like this.
Andrea Knoche (:Karen, why are you in between?
Laurie Gerber (:Come on. Karen.
Karen Viesta (:Yeah,
cuz I-
don't know, I sometimes don't feel like, I understand the whole mindset of, know, be guided by your intuition when it comes to food. However, I think it's really hard for most women to hear their intuition.
Dawn Wiggins (:to hear it.
Karen Viesta (:And so I do think
Andrea Knoche (:Mm.
Karen Viesta (:sometimes having some guardrails around it is really helpful. You know, I'm not saying rigid, what's that?
Junie Moon (:Mm.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:That's in but that's intuitive. That's
intuitive.
Karen Viesta (:The guard rails are intuitive.
Laurie Gerber (:Guardrails.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:Yeah,
you're intuiting that you need guardrails.
Andrea Knoche (:Mm.
Karen Viesta (:Yeah,
Laurie Gerber (:Interest.
Karen Viesta (:yeah,
but I'm thinking of like Laurie's example,
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:So it's knowing yourself so much.
Karen Viesta (:know, Laurie's example with the calories. Like I think that's very reasonable. It's not completely intuition. There are some guardrails there. They may not be rigid, but there's something that, you know, at times can help us feel safer, to use the word that we were
Andrea Knoche (:Mm.
Laurie Gerber (:Yeah.
Karen Viesta (:coming up with before, to feel a
Ozzie Osborne (:But she
Karen Viesta (:little more secure, you know.
Ozzie Osborne (:But she had an intuition that that would be something that worked for her. So we're always we're always guided by some part of our intuition.
Karen Viesta (:Yeah,
Andrea Knoche (:Mm.
Karen Viesta (:with that, then everything is intuition. Then this question can be thrown out, right? Because if what you're saying is true, then we can say everything's
Andrea Knoche (:Yeah. Everything is.
Karen Viesta (:intuition. I think...
Ozzie Osborne (:Well, but the question was do
you trust the in I think the question was about trusting the intuition as opposed to your instinct.
Karen Viesta (:Right, but I think when
Andrea Knoche (:Yes, trusting.
Karen Viesta (:people talk about intuitive eating, they're talking about being solely guided by your intuition without really a sense of guardrails. So what I'm saying is, I think it is good to eat intuitively, but I think it can be equally helpful to have some guardrails. I guess that's to clarify what I'm saying, you know.
Dawn Wiggins (:along the way. Yeah.
Andrea Knoche (:Mm.
Ozzie Osborne (:Got it.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:And
true intuitive
Andrea Knoche (:Yeah.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:eating, if you read the book and you studied it, is it does include having guardrails. It isn't that's what you're that's what you're wanting to attain to
Laurie Gerber (:Okay, great. Makes me feel better.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:to be able to do that. But you're
Karen Viesta (:Got it.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:you're kind of learning along the way. Like right now, I'm intuiting I need guardrails. I don't need this much right now. I'm going through something, I need the guardrails back. That's all part
Laurie Gerber (:Mm.
Karen Viesta (:Okay.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:of intuitive eating. It's just kind of a misconception about
that.
Ozzie Osborne (:Yeah, you're
paying attention to your internal
Laurie Gerber (:Interesting.
Ozzie Osborne (:your internal
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:Yeah.
Andrea Knoche (:Yeah.
Ozzie Osborne (:needs.
Andrea Knoche (:Interesting. Okay, two more. weighing yourself every morning. Do y'all do that? We gotta get rid of that, right? Lori, you do that. Lori, Lori's the g thumbs up. It's your guide.
Ozzie Osborne (:Boo.
Laurie Gerber (:it's your it's your I'm not saying I do it. I'm just saying I'm not against it if
you can manage your mind. I it's I mean
Ozzie Osborne (:Right.
Laurie Gerber (:it's the mind that's the problem, not the fucking scale. Right? Like you should look at your checkbook
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:Right, if you can manage it. Yeah.
Karen Viesta (:Yeah.
Andrea Knoche (:Yeah, yeah.
Laurie Gerber (:too. It's just a number. Yeah.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:Yeah, totally.
Junie Moon (:Again, it's a tool. Is is the tool
Andrea Knoche (:Who's writing checks?
Ozzie Osborne (:Good point.
Junie Moon (:gonna work for you or against you? Is it going to
Andrea Knoche (:Yeah.
Junie Moon (:create more angst? How are we using it and why? Yeah.
Laurie Gerber (:Exactly. I
Ozzie Osborne (:I
Dawn Wiggins (:I
think that my...
Laurie Gerber (:weigh myself if I think
Ozzie Osborne (:often
Andrea Knoche (:Mm.
Laurie Gerber (:I can handle whatever it says. That's what I weigh myself.
Dawn Wiggins (:But my scale usage
Junie Moon (:Yeah.
Dawn Wiggins (:evaporated as the food noise evaporated, right? Like that whole thing just went
Laurie Gerber (:Mm-hmm.
Andrea Knoche (:yeah yeah yeah.
Dawn Wiggins (:quiet. It's like, you know, you don't need to take Tylenol anymore when you forget to take it because you're not in pain. It's like, I stopped carrying.
Like maybe I get on the scale twice a year now. You know, it just
Junie Moon (:Wow.
Andrea Knoche (:Yeah, that's great.
Dawn Wiggins (:stopped. It just stopped happening. Yeah.
Laurie Gerber (:I get that. Yeah.
Andrea Knoche (:Yeah. Mm.
Laurie Gerber (:Yeah.
Andrea Knoche (:I like that. Okay, last one. Spanks. Anybody? Anybody? I we're we're we're getting rid of Marla. Okay, wait, Lori, what'd you say?
Laurie Gerber (:interesting. Yes, please.
Junie Moon (:I love to be spanked. No, just kidding.
Karen Viesta (:Why not?
Dawn Wiggins (:Marla, tell us more!
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:mean I just I mean I'm
okay with them like whatever you want to do I don't have any but it yeah I mean you can whate whatever works for you girl you know whatever works
Laurie Gerber (:It hurts my digestion. It makes my tummy hurt. It's hard to eat.
Andrea Knoche (:They just smooth it all out.
Junie Moon (:I can't breathe. I can't breathe. I can't breathe.
Dawn Wiggins (:It does. It does hurt our digestion. It does. Yeah. Yeah.
Andrea Knoche (:Really? I think they were a great invention. Yeah.
Karen Viesta (:Yeah, that's it, right? Like all of these
Junie Moon (:There you go, whatever works for you.
Karen Viesta (:things, I think for some women can create more noise. Like I think part of it is
Andrea Knoche (:Yeah.
Karen Viesta (:just everybody has to figure out what works for them and what quiets their noise down. But I
don't know that there's such a blanket answer, you know? Yeah.
Andrea Knoche (:Yes. For everybody. Yeah, great,
Ozzie Osborne (:Correct. Yeah.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:No,
it depends on the day,
Andrea Knoche (:great point.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:right?
Laurie Gerber (:Nice point.
Andrea Knoche (:Yeah. True. Mm-hmm.
Ozzie Osborne (:And a moment.
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:Moment.
Andrea Knoche (:So good. Marla, this has been such a beautiful conversation. Thank you so much for joining us. Before we let you go, I do have one final question for you, just for the listeners. If every woman listening looked in the mirror tomorrow morning and remembered just one thing that you shared with us today, what would you hope that would be?
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:Become your own best friend.
Andrea Knoche (:Mm. I like that. We need to just love ourselves.
Junie Moon (:Yeah, cuspants. Mm.
Andrea Knoche (:Even if you don't like us, you love us.
Ozzie Osborne (:Testies
Andrea Knoche (:Let's do
Marla Mervis-Hartmann (:Yeah. Yeah.

Ozzie Osborne (:Yay. Bye.
